Tripapa Chakra

One important use of nakshtras in jyotish is one simple tool for finding out auspicious and inauspicious year for a native.
This tool goes by the name of Tripapa Chakra and the objective is to find years lorded by three malefics, hence the name Tri-Papa which means three malefics. The year so lorded by three malefics are inauspicious and troublesome.
Also used for finding out the auspicious and inauspicious years in conjunction with the dasas such as the Vimshottari dasa. During an unfavourable dasa, if the year lords happen to be malefics according to this chakra, then the native suffers untold suffer.
The basis of this is three chakras namely, the Ketu Pataki Chakra, the Ketu Kundali Chakra and the Guru Kundali Chakra.
As per these three chakras, different planets are assigned to each nakshtra (based on 27 nakshtra scheme). Based on the birth nakshtra of the native different planets become the year lords as per the sequence of planets given on the chakra. For example the sequence of year lords as per the Ketu Pataki Chakra is Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu, Ketu and Venus.

If the year lords as per the three chakras are predominantly benefic, the year will be auspicious while predominance of malefics shall make the year in-auspicious and troubles ridden.
