"Empty" lunar days
There's a whole section of rules on lunar days in Jyotish that take into consideration such phenomenon as Shunya ("uselessness", "infertility") Tithi. Basic rule says that Shunya Tithis are inauspicious and the one fails to achieve any success in works started during such kind of Tithi.
There are 3 types of combinations that create Shunya Tithis:
• Certain Masa (Vedic month) + certain Tithi,
• Certain Nakshtra (constellation) + certain Tithi,
• Certain Lagna (ascendant) + certain Tithi.
Thus, if one of such "Shunya" combinations exists for a certain period of time, this period becomes very inauspicious for starting any work and should be avoided. Tables with all Shunya Tithi combinations are given below:

Taking into consideration everything mentioned above, during the vedic month Vaishakha Krishna Dwadashi becomes Maasa Shoonya Tithi. Ashlesha Nakshatra also activates Tithi Shoonya state if it falls on Krishna Dwadashi. Lagna (ascendant or rising sign) during Krishna Ekadashi becomes Tithi Shoonya for times when it is Dhanu (Sagittarius) or Meena (Pisces).
